Maternity Care

The practice participates in the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme.  

To avail of this service, a Contract is signed, on the first visit, between the Pregnant woman and Dr Sheehan, which enables us to  provide free antenatal and postnatal care to pregnant women and their babies. 

This contract provided by the HSE, covers specific visits only.

The following visits are covered by this scheme:

• Booking visit             (ideally before 12 weeks gestation)
• 24 weeks                   GP
• 28 weeks                   GP (Hospital on your 1st pregnancy)
• 30 weeks                   GP
• 32 weeks                   Hospital
• 34 weeks                   GP
• 36 weeks                   Hospital
• 37 weeks                   GP
• 38 weeks                   Hospital
• 39 weeks                   GP
• 40 weeks                   Hospital
• Postnatal care           2 week check for baby only
• 6 week check for Mum and baby 

**Please note that other illnesses arising in pregnant women, e.g. chest infections, kidney infections etc, are not covered by the Maternity and Infant Scheme, so usual private fees apply (if you are a private patient).
